Family Therapy

Empower Your Family to Foster Understanding Amidst Conflict

Conflict is inevitable in any family, primarily because every person in a family unit has unique thoughts, ideas, and beliefs that are independent of one another. What often makes conflict so difficult to overcome in families is that some families operate in a hive mind, such that every person in the family is expected to think and behave as others in the family. The goal in family therapy is to allow for greater autonomy amongst the members of the family while also promoting empathy, connection, and understanding. Therapy can also assist families by:

  • Creating space for members of the family to address their concerns in a neutral space
  • Fostering empathy and understanding
  • Setting goals and expectations
  • Understanding roles in the family

Another facet of family therapy is parent guidance. Parenting can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. However, parenting can also be a challenge, given that every child is unique and may require something different to allow him or her to flourish. Some of the reasons that parents seek guidance is for assistance in:

  • Setting appropriate limits for their child
  • Helping their child listen and follow rules
  • Helping their child with routines and structure (i.e., homework, bedtime)
  • Empathizing and understanding their child
  • Reducing destructive or harmful behaviors at home and/or school (i.e., hitting, yelling)
  • Improving school performance and achievement
